Newborn baby

How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives;
But greater still the calm assurance:
This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!

A Tribute to the people involved in the tragedy at Thekkady

Folks, there’s been a terrible boat accident at the Periyar Tiger Reserve, Thekkady. Almost 50 people, mostly women and children lost their lives when their boat capsized. I have been to this place many times, and have been on boats here almost every time I visit. It never even occurred to me that something like this could happen. May the good Lord provide comfort to the people who lost their loved ones in the terrible accident, the way only He can.

Railroad track

About 25 km away from Vellore is Amirthi. It is a nice spot for a weekend getaway if you are at Vellore, or even Chennai. The main attraction is the trek to the waterfall. It is not a difficult trek at all. You just have to walk along a pathway of stones. There is also a mini zoo. This picture was taken on the way to Amirthi.

The lone tree

Munnar is a beautiful town in the hills of Kerala. As I had said earlier, tourists usually forgo the beautiful scenery of Kerala to visit beaches or backwaters that are more readily accessible. Munnar is known for its beautiful tea estates and cool weather.

The Wounded Monkey

I remember this little monkey, sitting on the ledge, whining/ moaning in pain. It had been attacked by a group of bigger monkeys and was obviously hurt – physically and probably emotionally as well. Later it jumped into the trees and fled.

My limping kitten

I do not like cats in particular. But I took care of a couple of kittens in my final year at med school. This one was really cute. But it had an accident; two accidents actually, that left it paralyzed waist down. In this snap, the emphasis is on the strong front paws, thus reminding the viewer to focus on his strong points and blur out his weak ones. You can read about the kitten here.

Dusk at Vellore

Vellore, which hosts one of the finest medical schools in India, is a hot and arid place. Still the beauty of the skyline as the sun sets behind the rocky hills is quite evident from this picture. This was taken on a color film roll, but the print turned out to be in black and white.

Clinic at Mudgaon

02010026

This is the clinic at Mudgaon, run by the Lady Willingdon hospital, Manali. The clinic is right across a river, under the shadow of a snow covered peak. It is surrounded by meadows bearing flowers of all colors. This is one of the most beautiful places, I’ve been to.

White Roses

After a heavy rain, while most roses droop down, one rose though drenched, looks up into the light and reflects it. How true this should be of the christian.

Nesting birds

image_1Kerala, has a lot to offer in terms of nature. It has a couple of good beaches and is world-famous for its backwaters and houseboats. But the lush greenery and hilly countryside are often overlooked. This picture was taken at the Periyar wildlife sanctuary, Thekkady.

On the way to Mudgaon

02010047
This was taken a long while back. I was visiting a clinic at Mudgaon, Himachal Pradesh. Mudgaon is a village which is about 4 hours drive from Manali. This beautiful valley was seen on the way.
